My version of positioning the IMCA Stock Cars/Truck, IMCA Modifieds for the Main Race.
First, they established how fast each vehicle can go, by a process know as
Time-Trials.
Each car usually gets 3 laps,
1/ get to speed lap
2/ first timed lap
3/ second timed lap

This procedure determines if you are, s = slower, f = faster.
The field of cars are then divided into two groups, fast with fast, slow with slow.
Each group then runs two heat races.

heat #1= cars positioned by time-trials.

Note! fast cars start all races at the back of the pack!

heat#2= cars positioned by finish of heat one.

They then take ALL the cars from both groups and position them by the positions acquired through heat races, with the fastest times always converted to the back of the pack. This means that the fast have to pass all the cars in both groups to win the Main.
